Depending on the calibre Rolex ETA etc different oils are used for different things. Oil for the gear pivots oilr for the escapement grease for setting parts thick grease for the mainspring barrel. Most all of the oils and greases used today are synthetic and are quite expensive, but go along way. Moebious 9010 used for balance wheels and some train wheels cost about 50 dollars for 1/32th of an ounce. Epilame or fix a drop which is a substance you put on escape wheels reversers and pallet forks cap jewels cost 100 for 6 ounces. If left open will evaporate in hours. Also these oils and their applications change from year to year and different companies use proprietary oils which they have developed for their specific line of calibres. So as you can see not a real easy question to answer. Typically all the oils and greases associated with modern watch repair initially cost in the vicinity of 6 to 8 hundred dollars. Hi Everyone, I am new here. I really enjoy reading the posts here and becoming more educated in the process.

Here is my story and maybe someone can give me some suggestions.

In 2000 my husband bought me a SS DJ for a college graduation gift. I was completely surprised as he had just given me a nice Tag as a Christmas gift only a year earlier.

So, he is turning 40 in Oct. and has another huge milestone coming up soon, he has been a professional hockey coach for the past 10 years and I think that is worth marking as well. Hopefully they will go deep into playoffs and we can have more to celebrate

I bought him a SS/Plat YM right before the price increase through an online dealer (no AD even close to where I am and I had it shipped to my summer home in Montana to save taxes). I took a quick trip home to see the watch and although it was what I expected I am praying I didn’t get swindled. Seemed okay to me but that isn’t saying much. I would love to post a question about the retailer but not sure if that is frowned upon here. Advice on that is welcome.

I will likely give him the watch this summer because he will need to wear it across the border into Canada where we reside during the hockey season.
Anyone have any really good ideas as to how I can surprise him with it? I have a feeling he is on to me because I think he saw my browser history and links to the retailer but I would like to come up with a creative way to give it to him.

It’s a big one including the box. The writing that I criticized to no end is not that visible in person but pictures sure make it stand out.

I do not think it is too big considering the big trend. It is a thick watch but not out of proportion compared to a regular SD IMO.

I apologize for the poor quality pics, I took them fast and I do not have a light box set-up at the moment. The third pic is very close to how it looks in person with the muted writing.

I think it is one model that people will love or hate. The AD I got it from said one salesman really wants one badly but they will not let him get one until their waiting list is satisfied. =) maverick

Do anyone know what price AD employees get Rolex watches for?
If Rolex tells there AD’s what price and how many they can sell to there own employees for that price or if the AD’s can decide for them self?

One of them walked around with a GMT-Master with green writing.

If they can buy like at least 3-5 for a great price. Why not buy some Day-Date’s or something and just sell them again and earn some fast 1000$

Do most of you buy from ADs?

Do some buy from the bay or other online retailers? I know that if you buy from a gray-marketer, the warranty is not honoured. Does that make a big dif for you?

Would anyone of you buy one without box and papers? Seems too risky given that there are so many fakes out there.

I am in Canada. A steel datejust is about $5,000.00 or so. How much is it in the USA from an AD?
